With hundreds of designs to choose from in terms of eyewear at Signature Optical, the process of trying on different pairs can be overwhelming. We love to provide options, but we also understand that most of us need a guide—somewhere to start—when it comes to selecting the right frames for our face.
We’ll Show You How to Choose the Right Frames
The first step in selecting the right pair is knowing your face shape. We have broken the most common shapes into four categories: the oval, the round, the square, and the heart. Once you have determined your shape, take into consideration that the frames should not match your shape, rather contrast the shape of your face.
Oval Face Shape. For those with a more oval facial structure, the key to choosing frames is to stick with a pair that is the same width as your face, no wider. Shoot for a strong bridge and geometric shapes. In terms of sunglasses, the aviator shape is an outstanding choice for the oval. While the frames are larger, they are narrow. However, oversized glasses tend to be problematic for the oval, so use discretion.
Round Face Shape. If you have a round face, go angular or oversized. The round facial structure can particularly pull off square or rectangular lines. The angles offset the roundness of the face, striking a beautiful balance making the face appear longer and slimmer. Frames to avoid include rimless frames, round frames, and small frames. These shapes can exaggerate the round shape of your face.
Square Face Shape. For those of us with a more square face shape, smooth out the angles of the face with softer lines, curved, or rounded corners. An ideal pair for the square is the cat-eye or a more retro pair. Angular and boxier frames can make the square face look bulky and wide.
Heart Face Shape. Frames that balance the width of the forehead with the narrowness of the chin are ideal. The heart shaped face looks great in more rectangular shaped frames. Avoid any style or color of frames that highlights the forehead. This includes frames with decorative temples or embellished tops.
The truth is, if you feel good wearing a particular frame, you’ve found the right pair. Come on in and take a look. We have hundreds of options and the perfect pair (or two) are definitely waiting for you. No appointments necessary.
